2 Simple Step-by-Step Guides to Braiding Your Hair

Braids are perfect when you are looking for a simple, convenient style that can get you through any occasion. Braiding hair rarely takes too much of your time, and you don’t need a lot of tools to complete the look. Here is a step-by-step guide to braid Your hair as well as any stylist could.

Standard Hair Braid
All you need is a brush, some elastic and a good hairspray.

1. Spray and brush your hair to get out any knots or tangles then tie back into a ponytail, securing with an elastic.
2. Part your hair into three sections, keeping each section between separate fingers using both of your hands.
3. Weave the hair, crossing each section, one at a time in the middle to create a beautiful braid. Take care to tighten the sections as you pull them to ensure that the braid does not fall out as you go about your day. Smooth the hair at each cross-over for a neater appearance, and also to avoid strands of hair sticking out.
4. Once you have braided your hair to the tips, secure the braid with an elastic to keep it from falling apart.

When you have completed your braid, you can either roll it around and secure it with bobby pins in a bun or simply leave it for a fishtail look. If your hair is finer, you will need to pull it a lot tighter and secure it as tightly as possible as fine hair tends to loosen up and get messy pretty quickly.

French Braid
Despite looking quite complicated, French braids are fairly easy to do, and with a bit of practice, you’ll get the hang of it. Again, you will need some hairspray, a brush, and elastic bands.

1. Brush your hair thoroughly and spray it, removing tangles and knots.
2. Part the hair into three sections at the top and hold each section between the fingers of your hands.
3. Again, repeat the crossing motion as mentioned above, taking care to tighten your hair and smoothing it down for a neater look. This time, however, gather hair from each side of your head and combine it with the rest of the sections as you cross over, making a plait that looks like a thick cornrow.
4. Repeat this motion until you have reached the end of the braid then secure with an elastic band for your finished look. This hairstyle also requires keeping the braid as tight as possible to keep it from falling apart.

There are plenty of braid styles to choose from, but these two are the most basic you can try, especially if you are new to hair braiding. Take care to pull the braids tightly and smooth the hair down for a neater look but, do not pull too tightly as this can result in hair damage. Spraying your hair and brushing it out will add volume to it and give you a more glamorous look. With enough practice, you’ll be able to perfect any type of braid you desire.
